Zimbabwe is a landlocked country, surrounded by South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique. It used to be a British colony and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, however due to president Mugabe’s gross human-rights violations, it was suspended. As of present, there is still extreme mass intimidation and torture by the police & ruling party against anyone who is not a member or who disagrees with Mugabe and his party – mainly in the main cities and the few remaining farms owned by white farmers.
However, the few wildlife parks and areas that have largely remained least affected by poaching and the ruling party, have fantastic safari lodges and experiences. Tourists are not affected by the politics nor the police in the tourists areas of Hwange Reserve, Vic Falls, Lake Kariba, Matusadona Reserve and Mana Pools Reserve. There are other great tourist areas in other parts of Zimbabwe, however, we only recommend that tourists visit these areas as part of a group and hence why we are including a few overland safaris through Zimbabwe that visit the Matobo Hills Park near Bulawayo, Masvingo & the Greater Zimbabwe Ruins. A new safari tour from 2011 is Best of Zimbabwe. This safari starts and ends in Johannesburg and includes all the main attractions of Zimbabwe – Matobo National Park, Hwange National Park, Victoria Falls, Lake Kariba, Chimanimani mountains, Zimbabwe Ruins and then in to Kruger Park for a couple of days. We also are offering the 4-day Mana Canoe Trail which includes canoeing down the Zambezi River, walking with your Guide in the Mana Pools Park and camping on the river banks & islands.
The safari lodges and camps that we book our clients into, include in the Hwange National Park – Little Makalolo Plains, Makalolo Plains Camp & Davison’s Camp. On the shores of Lake Kariba near Matusadona National Park, we book clients into Musango Camp and Rhino Safari Camp plus a variety of Houseboats for small groups of friends or an extended family. In the Mana Pools National Park, there is the well-known Ruckomechi Camp or the Mana Canoe Trail. In Vic Falls we book our clients into the Vic Falls Safari Lodge, Ilala Lodge, Stanley & Livingstone Lodge and upstream from the falls is Matetsi Water Lodge. We have a wider variety of accommodations on the Zambian side of Vic Falls, in and around the town of Livingstone. The same activities are possible from either side of the Falls. So, fear not – we can offer you a fantastic wildlife safari holiday to the beautiful country of Zimbabwe.
